It has a consistency like a pear or a crab apple, but it isn't bitter or sweet like either of them. It has a large pit in the middle (2 large almond shaped seed, in the reddest one) and tastes bland and mushy. Mm ight need to be cooked. It was on clearance at the local international market and my wife likes to try random fruits and when it's $1 it's especially appealing. It's definitely a fruit ad the seeds are inside but it tastes like a vegetable without being cooked. Really really bland.

Seems like Mexico Hawthorne, not much flavor, not sweet not sour, just bland.
It is loaded with pectin, and is used to make jam with other flavor fruit.
