I transformed my home’s curb appeal by using 53 tons of stone, rock, and gravel to rebuild my driveway so it will last forever. Contractors will hate me for showing this but concrete is expensive so I saved $30,000 by using rock instead.

today this driveway is getting an epic forever makeover my home’s curb appeal has become such an embarrassment I can’t take it anymore 5 years ago we bought our Dreamhouse after living in a cramped neighborhood suddenly we actually had land the property had beautiful landscaping it was perfect nothing needed to be done to improve it I immediately began improving it with every new Improvement something else quietly slipped through the cracks and the biggest disaster is our driveway it’s a complete mess these rocks are constantly spreading into the lawn then there’s the NeverEnding Battle of weeds and grass growing in the Rocks today I’m transforming it into a driveway that will last 100 years with 53 tons of stone plus I’ve got two game-changing tips that you can use that would have prevented this entire mess from happening in the first place you don’t want to miss that welcome to Hackman y’all first thing I’m going to do is take some of this marking spray paint and then I’m going to Mark out the edges of the driveway I want to soften the curves and I also want to widen this by a couple feet so that big trucks when they’re making deliveries have plenty of room to maneuver around in here now to cut edging you can use a tool like this conveniently named edging tool and I’m just going to go down and I’m going to go go all the way down every line just like that the time is going to fly actually I think I hear the the first delivery truck is already here the first load of rock is already here [Music] 18 tons of one man Boulders here you’re probably wondering how am I going to use these for a driveway don’t these seem a little large well yes but I’ll explain that in a minute the bigger problem is I’ve got 36,000 lb of stone here that I’ve got to get down this entire driveway way and I’ve either got to do that one by one by hand or I could try my little tractor but that ain’t going to happen it’s not going to lift all this weight so I’ve had a thorough discussion and very meaningful with my back and we’ve decided to go with option number three [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh Kim remember the uh the RV that we wanted yeah Tada how dare you you have stolen my dreams I got forks I got a bucket let’s do this talk to me Goose though quite skilled at leaving skid marks I am no professional skid steer operator so this is going to take me a little bit of getting used to okay probably by the time I get done with this job I’ll have the hang of it that is not quite the clean Edge I would have liked to have gotten but I’ll get better as this goes along now our problems with this driveway actually started before we even bought this house the original owners when they had this laid out the landscapers put the edging too far down into the ground you can’t even see it anymore it’s covered and then on top of that when we added the addition for my parents to live in that contractor absolutely destroyed what was left of the edging that you could see with his heavy equipment and then he left before the job was finished so I’ve got to get up the rest of this edging you can see it’s actually like 6 in down in some spots all right my loves into the back of the truck back at a truck so you can see originally they had these what are these 2x sixes down as an edging and some of it still left but just so much of it was crushed and for what we’re doing we just need it all out of the way and I sure enough didn’t want to dig a trench and put all new Tu by material down man that would have been a pain what is that ew what is that Sigma what is that probably grease off of skid here oh my gosh hopefully is that is that some kind of like animal that it’s some type of sand booger [Music] wow good job babe I’ve run out of room for storage out here at the house so I’ve gotten to where I just store stuff out in the driveway and then cover it with a tarp and this concrete by the way is completely ruined they’re just Bricks now because they’ve absorbed so much moisture from the air what is it a FR stop get PE on me what is it it’s a little frog a I was going to take into the forest quick come here okay let’s go my flip was off [Music] oh it’s Crush my fingers he’s moving I don’t I don’t know if he’s making it better or worse what do you guys think he’s just having fun out there I don’t know what he’s doing Dy got a new [Music] [Applause] [Music] toy it felt so good to clean this part of the driveway up I know my UPS driver is disappointed driving down this dilapidated disgusting driveway in disrepair he’s going to be delighted when he discovers what we’ve done so this is the entrance to my mom’s part of the house and this is the pathway she takes out of here and what we’re going to do is actually take this grass out of here and pick up these uh stepping stones and we’re going to run Rock in here and then put the Stepping Stones Back on Top of the Rock they’re not very stuck at all sweet and I think I have not measured this out but I’m hoping that this is basically the exact width of the bucket on the skid steer that’s what I call r2b Bo it looks like a dumber version of r2d too so I knew he looks [Music] wow all right I’m going to send the Drone up to verify that all my lines are nice and rounded you know because when people are flying over looking down on me I can’t have them looking down on me [Music] the home Point has been updated please check it on the map shoot them lines look pretty good to me now I can see like where you at right there it needs to you don’t see nothing yeah needs to curve a little what are you see where where you see a curve where you point to it woman right here it comes out so much it needs to curve a little bit nicer right goly noly I’m GNA transplant transplant I’m GNA transplant I’m gonna transplant This Grass somewhere else so I figured I’d try to use the tractor for this because where I want to take it I can’t take the skid steer and the tractor won’t tear the grass up a man I smelled it and there it is that’s the I got change my SHO [Music] it smells the tractor didn’t really have enough strength to pull up this grass so we went to plan B dig it up with the skid skar transfer it to the Tractor and then Madison takes it where it needs to go I’m going to double check here real quick and I’m going to measure the linear feet of driveway and make sure that we actually have enough Rock to do this this 266 linear feet of Boulders so I’m going to take these Boulders and I’m going to line the edge of the driveway with these and this will hold in the the smaller rock once we bring that in these Boulders are anywhere average around 12 in let’s just say 10 on each level we got five levels so probably about 50 linear feet 50 100 150 200 250 250 ft of Rock plus these smaller ones that will kind of fill in between I think I got enough rock you know once we start laying them out we may anyway I hope I got enough Rock I’m pretty sure I got enough Rock if this skid steer won’t lift these pallets up I’m going to throw up okay cuz that was the main reason that I pulled the trigger on this I’m going to be like Kim even okay if this doesn’t work [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] stand but don’t let these things fall on [Music] you oh that’s that’s a lovely one there thank you baby oh man I went on Carnivore about 7 months ago and ever since I did like water doesn’t cut it for me anymore so I started adding these element electrolyte packs to my water I have like so much more energy it’s like amazing when I’m out here and like sweating like a pig I crave these I freaking love them I’m not just saying that because element sponsored this video I don’t want a nasty energy drink with sugar or like sketchy ingredients and element doesn’t have either one of those now I happen to like the Citrus the best that’s my favorite flavor they actually have a variety of flavors and you can try them all when you get this free sample pack with any purchase by using my link drink lnt.com hasman if you purchase element and you don’t like it give it away to somebody because element will refund your money no questions asked again go to drink LM nt.com Hackman I’ll put a link in the description oh these are getting a little wacky right here oh we got a guest on here there spider coming there he is there he is you can run buddy but you can’t a he’s cute I Haven seen one like that hello little friend hello did you get him oh no he’s back on the Rock that’s a lovely one you help B no that’s not some lovely coloration very I think you’re going to like it I I do I picked that one out for [Applause] you beautiful is that how you that you yeah how it works that yeah it’s like it’s un painted gorgeous I know you like oh no I like the green where do you want this one out I don’t know you’re in the way this one you idiot where do we put it tan or gray let’s do the gray side all day so much better nice show you something what I found Rock Bottom I did actually she found Rock Bottom come here come here now you got to come here got to come here come here you have to look at on the [Music] right if you look at it from the right angle oh my God oh my there’s a heavy load up on my back no way to throw it all for a second I believe it’s gone just a full out [Music] of that was a long day but we got all the perimeter rocks in and they look freaking amazing I love it approximately 35ish tons of gravel are coming tomorrow and in the meantime I thought I’d go ahead and give these Hedges a quick trim they’re looking pretty horrible also these swirly bushes trees whatever they are that we have out for front we planted these 5 years ago and they were tiny when we planted them and look how they have grown they’re like cartoony they’re little fat things now they’ve only grown about a foot taller but they are way wider and by the way I am not a professional landscaper so feel free to roast me in the comments I just asked him about spreading it as they dump it and Driver kind of rolled his eyes and he wasn’t real thrilled about that so they’re just going to dump it uh I’m going spread it with this Good Steer I love the smell of gravel in the morning okay it has no smell this is number 57 Rock gravel okay the most commonly used Rock used in all of construction now I’ve got a big tip for you do not oh my gosh here comes some lunatic pulling in here this is what I have to deal with on a regular basis I I just I just noticed also this don’t let this distract you this is this is not my chest hair my chest hair is actually much Fuller and thicker than that that’s a dead cat on my microphone do not buy this gravel from a landscape supply company that is what I originally was going to do and it was going to cost me $99 per ton plus $500 delivery the guy that I bought those Boulders from right there he directed me to an asphalt supply company this I paid $53 per ton for and $270 [Music] delivery yes I fully aware that technically this is a compact Track Loader not a skid steer but quite honestly it’s all I can do to not call it a bobcat because that’s what I originally learned to operate these on over 25 years ago was a bobcat and the original skid steers were called Bobcats so much like tissues being generically called Kleenex a lot of people still call these bobcats in fact the salesman said that people will call the Kabota dealership and say hey I want to buy a bobcat and he’ll say well we’re a Kabota dealer and they’ll say I know but I want to buy a bobcat and what they want is a skid steer now I know that this part of the video looks like I’ve got this playing at like half speed surely this cannot be normal speed but I assure you it is let me put the next section at Double speed and it’ll look like normal speed if you know you know what are those 3 hours later around [Music] they’re doing it [Music] what’s that right there huh what is that what that oh that yeah that uh I don’t know I mean I can neither confirm nor deny that it would match up with the corner of a skid steer bucket now if you want your driveway to last a long time you can’t just put down number 57 rock on top of dirt eventually The Rock would just disappear into the dirt and it’s going to get spread out everywhere you need a compactable surface first and that is where this comes into play this is called gab or Crusher run and it’s a combination of rock and different Aggregates and it allows everything to be compacted so that you have a hard surface now that I’ve got these pavers put in here amidst amongst the Rocks I don’t want these rocks overflowing onto the pavers and making a mess basically just like they did with the rest of the driveway originally so this is rock and mulch glue you can’t put this down on your driveway but I probably could have put it down along the edge of my driveway to keep the the last little bit of rocks from spreading out my sprayer clogged up and I had to switch over to this watering can which was a lot Messier and honestly a lot more wasteful it took a lot more of the glue to do it this way but I’ve seen people go back a year later after using this and the Rocks still be in place one of the reasons that the weeds went so crazy out here was these guys right here okay I didn’t want to spray poison down to kill the weeds that either the dogs could get into or the chickens could get into so here’s the solution for that I’m going to take one gallon of vinegar then I’m going to take one cup of salt and you can see how carefully I’m measuring this out and 1 tblspoon of dish soap anytime I’ve got something growing up in here I’ll just come along and hit it and I won’t have to worry about the the dogs or the chickens getting into it anymore like that right on Q here it is check out the before shot and now the after shot our UPS drivers going to be so proud of us when he sees what we’ve done in the end it cost us about $5,500 in materials now that’s not cheap but it’s way less expensive than the $335,000 concrete would have cost and I’m not embarrassed by how it looks anymore now we saved a ton of money but if you want to save a ton of money on your home you can check this video out right here and I will see you next time check this out it’s been less than 24 hours since I put that rock glue down and it rained hard last night and magically it actually worked

  1. dump truk driver is an a hole
takes little extra effort to spread it
ornat lesst not dump it next to the road as thst guy did!
imagine all the labor cost the guy cost you!

  2. Salt, Vinegar, and soap… all three more toxic than glyphosate and far less effective on plants so you have to use far more… but you don't want to "spread poison"… The irony….

  3. If the driver couldn't spread it as he dropped it, I would have called the supplier and requested a driver that could spread or cancel the order.

  4. I once had an issue with an entryway into one of my cattle lots. The first thing I did was put rock down; then, over the course of three months, it was dirt. So I thought I got smart by putting down plastic. Then, put down gravel. It helped, but it slowly disappeared. So I tried something crazy. I put down 1 inch foam boards, then spread gravel over that. It worked!

  5. I didnt see you put the GBA down. Does that go down BEFORE or AFTER the #57 and do you compact either way? ie after the GBA before the 57 or after both are down? New to your channel. Love the work.

  6. You should have laid down a black mesh type carpet before spreading stone. When it comes to stone driveways the ground loves to swallow them especially if you live in swamp lands or very wet lands.

  7. $35,000 originally estimate.. DiY for $5,500 + $60,000 for Kubota. Bargain! JK, Great job man. And had fun with the family as well. Love it!!! Was a bit unclear…so are you saying you put down a layer of Crusher Run over the driveway first? How thick?

  8. β€œSketchy ingredients”. I’m all for you not wanting high caffeine, but dude… you own a smartphone. Just google those ingredients, it’s not that hard man. Lmao.
