  1. A quick google search of “blue and pink hostas” turns up nothing like it, so probably AI.

  2. speedfilly

Yeah it looks like AI. Blue just doesn’t naturally occur in most plants, especially leaves.

  3. longfurbyinacardigan

I remember when Etsy was real products and homemade gifts. Now it’s mostly drop shippers and AI garbage.

  4. ericamillsie

That’s not even a hosta. No hostas grow like that, forget the coloring 🤣

  5. Huge-Squirrel8417

I have blue hostas, but it’s just a green with the concept of blue in it. No pink.

  6. PersephonesChild82

That is AI (or possibly photoshop) imposing completely unnatural colors over a regular calathea leaf pattern.

  7. irreverant_raccoon

It’s a real hosta in the world of Lisa Frank. It doesn’t exist outside of a trapper keeper.

  8. So fake. That’s not even a hosta, it’s more comparable to a Calathea

  9. Zestyclose_Current41

If this plant existed, it would cost 1000 dollars lmao I actually have a couple “blue” hosta and I wish they were *that* blue.

  10. HibiscusGrower

I don’t know if it’s AI or if it’s a calathea recolored in Photoshop but I can assure you that this is 2000% fake.

  11. UpbeatCandidate9412

No no no guys. TRUST ME. ITS REAL

  12. BreweryRabbit

Yeah unfortunately this is AI. First Etsy was plagued by knockoffs/people stealing other designs and mass selling them, and now it’s just absolutely wrecked by AI

  13. dabonthem2000

even walmart is selling seeds for fake plants… how is this allowed

  14. CdnTreeGuy89

Looks like a Calathea Roseopicta x AI 🤣

  15. scissorsgrinder

Not AI, just photoshop. Pinterest and fake seeds for sale sites are full of them.

  16. Spoopy_Scary

Etsy and eBay are full of this shit. Please report every listing for this garbage.

  17. probs-high

My mom just fell for this scam.. they were basil seeds.

  18. CrunchMunchSlurp

    I wish it was real…
However if you can sus them out etsy does still have some good reputable sellers. I just got a satsuki azalea from Etsy and it was in great shape. So they are out there

  19. Voodoo7007

100% totally fake. I see advertisements like that for rainbow colored hostas everyday now as well.

  20. MostOutcome6888

If you want a true blue plant, try something like Microsorum thailandicum (fern), some Elaphoglossum species (a fern, i.e. E. metallicum), some Selaginella species (spikemoss), or Begonia pavonina (though this one is only blue when reflecting light, especially from cameras and requires very specific care conditions)

  21. That isn’t a hosta, even without the magic coloring. It’s something else entirely that I don’t own and cannot ID for you. But it ISN’T a hosta, and the color is fake as hell for anything ostensibly leafy green.

  22. EntertainerForeign77

Get those seeds. You’ll see they will never bloom. and the package will be coming from overseas. i wouldnt

  23. OneWholePirate

Yep, this is basically just an AI fusion of calathea roseopicta and calathea makoyana with some silly blue colour thrown over it.

Closest thing would be calathea roseopicta “Dottie” but they’re a pain to grow

  24. Sea_Macaron_7962

Not that u have to but zooming in shows u even more clearly that it’s ai.

  25. Separate-Year-2142

It’s fake, an unrelated species recolored in the style of old school MSPaint software.

  26. kermitincognito

Former florist here. weird colors like this can be achieved in orchids by feeding the plant water with food coloring, so potentially possible with calatheas too i imagine. that being said it doesnt last obviously and isnt great for the plant

  27. Klutzy_Ad_8886

Yes as with most things online now unfortunately

  28. if you see a questionable plant on etsy just check the sellers page. if they have some ai they’ll have more, check for a plant you’re familiar with.

  29. Elegant-Ideal-4263

I’ve seen listings on Etsy that look fake-check the leaf texture and root attachment in close-up photos; if they’re blurry or identical it’s probably a propagated photo or digital mockup. Ask the seller for a live video before buying.

  30. Shiny_Flame_6105

I’ve bought odd plant listings on Etsy; sellers often exaggerate rarity – ask for close-up leaf/venation and root shots and provenance, and compare to verified ID photos before buying.

  31. Fuzzy-Significance94

Ai plants, they give me uncanny valley feelings.
