To chill with the watering. Not a single one of my house plants needed to be watered every day, and daily watering was the root cause of 90% of the plant issues i had in the first year.

You can’t just go dig up a bunch of clay-filled dirt from the backyard of the rental house and plant houseplants in it.
I mean you *can*. But they don’t do well.

That signs of over- and underwatering can be similar. Also, that fertilizer is a useful thing. 🤫

I would tell myself to get plastic inserts for every pot you buy to improve drainage because you are an overwaterer.

Buy that silver dragon scale cause you’re gonna want it later and you won’t find any more in stores when you do.
To be fair I’m just talking to myself from May of this year, cause that’s when I got started. And now I have something like 237 plants(trays of props counted as one). I’m a little worried for this winter. Lol. XD

It’s easier to fix under watering than over watering…

that its okay to throw away plants, that you dont need to buy every plant you see even if its on sale. what overwatering actually is.
it took me a year to realize you can throw away plants. i was crying on the phone to my mom about a thrip infestation that had been going on for the past 9 months. after our call ended she just texted me “its okay, throw out the plants that have pests and we will get you new ones when youre ready”. i threw out most of my collection that night while sobbing. i got rid of the thrips and i now only have plants that i actually want and treasure.

I get that you like plants but doesn’t there come a point where it’s a bit overwhelming? I can barely handle the 7 plants I have right now, this amount would give me so much stress.

Quarantine every new plant for 2 months, not 2 weeks. Sooner or later you’ll buy something with an undetected pest and if you’ve got 100s of plants it will spread like wildfire.
I utilize separate rooms and a couple grow tents. I long for the day that my primary plant room is pest free.

Do not buy the big beautiful expensive plants if you have not mastered keeping the small, cheap ones alive

Mine would be that I needed to consider my climbing versus trailing plants and how they all fit into the collection as they grow.
I have about 40 varieties of philo and most of them climb. I need others that aren’t climbers to help fill the space once they’ve grown and take up more vertical space.
So basically, I need more diversity in my collection.

Also, maintain a quarantine area and follow proper quarantine procedures for all new and affected plants. 🫡
