Someone recently posted the controversial article in the Dayton Daily News. Many of us were quite upset with it. Well, there are now calls for her to resign. Link to the FB post will be added in the comments.

I don’t live there so it would feel wrong to post / contact with a call to resign, but that is incredibly outdated and flat out false information.

Why do that on her part? Isn’t the joy of gardening in large part about learning and growing? We all find out new things about gardening every year I’d wager, and this antiquated mindset is wild.

  2. Agreed. Misguided advice, hard to see how someone with her background would concoct this set of ideas.

  3. This is a pretty outdated set of beliefs that present research does not at all support.

I can see this. There are some master gardener advice tables around me, one at a garden center and another at the farmer’s market. They will absolutely tell you to remove invasives but outside of that, I feel like I outgrew their fields of interest and expertise when I switched to native planting.

The cooperative extension also runs an advice table and thankfully that’s a different story here. Good advice from them.

Ok the original article is pretty cringe, but the follow up she did after the initial backlash was, to me, a lot better:

This isn’t local to me but I can imagine she got a lot of feedback from purists, which is fair given her position, but I also think that a zero-sum approach risks alienating people who would otherwise consider native plantings.

I’ve been wondering at the possibility of there being a lawn lobby. I think I found it lol.

I live here and signed the petition to have her removed. Her knowledge, views, and agenda are outdated and not supported by science.
