The BBC star’s famous Longmeadow garden, from which he presents Gardeners’ World, was hit by flooding in 2024 after heavy rainfall, with the presenter sharing pictures of large areas of the garden under water.

“Never seen it so high in the garden in 35 years,” he said in an Instagram post in October last year, lamenting that the “liquid mud” would leave “every leaf and every blade of grass” covered in a thick mud slick.

Fans flocked to support him in the comments, with one writing: “I’m so sorry you have had this issue. Hopefully all your plants will recover.”

And the Dons were not to escape the flooding that Storm Claudia brought, with Monty sharing pictures of parts of his garden disappearing under water as the storm hit over the last couple of days.

“A little wet in the garden this morning after yesterday’s storm that dropped a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours,” he wrote, sharing a picture of dog Ned in the floodwater.

“Oh goodness I heard the flooding was bad. Hope you are all ok,” wrote one fan, while another said: “Wow! A beautiful photo, but I hope the plants survive the flooding! Hope you are all ok”.

In a follow up, Don confirmed that the house has escaped the water, telling fans that there has been “really bad flooding” in the area, with homes and businesses suffering very badly, but that “we are lucky that it is just the fields and gardens that are wet here”.

And he shared a little of the light side of the flooding, with a video of a very happy Ned retrieving a ball from floodwater.

“The small matter of a major flood is not going to stop Ned retrieving his ball,” he added.
