Cut the pot for sure, unless you plan on keeping it in that same sized planter. You can trim back roots without killing the plant. If you were going to keep it in the same sized pot you would trim the roots. I personally would put it in a newer bigger planter in which case I would definitely cut that planter to keep the roots in tact so it can continue to get bigger
