Every crime scene raises unsettling questions.

How to Watch

Killer Grannies airs Sundays at 8/7c on Oxygen.

In a preview for a new episode of Oxygen’s Killer Grannies, airing Sunday, Nov. 16, at 8/7c p.m., police faced a disturbing puzzle in 2012 in Lake Alfred, Florida.

For starters, why did 67-year-old Barbara Scott bury her 77-year-old husband Benny Scott in the backyard of their home?

As Oscar nominee June Squibb, who hosts the series, recounts, Barbara’s explanation kept changing.

“First it’s an accident,” said Squibb in the sneak peek. “Now it’s a suicide.”

What happened to Benny Scott?

In March 2012, Barbara dropped a bombshell about Benny. She told family members that he’d died at home and later buried him in their backyard.

Police set out to find out how Benny had died. They began by searching the Scott residence for any evidence that might yield insight into how Benny died. Then officials shifted the focus to the couple’s garden.

“We get down…four and a half feet, and we get a hint of the smell of decomposition,” said now-retired Polk County Sheriff’s Department Det. David Clark. “So, we slow down and layer by layer, start removing their dirt.”

What police found in Barbara Scott’s garden

After this painstaking process designed to preserve any possible evidence, police found the body of a man later identified as Benny wrapped in a covering.

“We bring the body out of the tarp,” said Clark, “and we can clearly see the bullet hole in his head.”

What they saw next stunned them. “We realize that he is bound,” said Clark. “His hard and his feet are tied behind him. It looks like it’s been a professional hit.”

What happened to Benny and what was his wife Barbara’s role in it? Find out in “Granny’s Garden,” a new episode of Killer Grannies, airing Sunday, Nov. 16 at 8/7c p.m. on Oxygen.
