Vendor said it's corking but the whole thing is super squishy 😔 so that doesn't seem like a healthy symptom to me. I feel like it looks completely different upon arrival versus the sale picture. Really hesitant to buy any more cacti at all, if there's a chance that one can show up in the mail really squishy and different looking than pictured yet paying full price. Buying cacti is an investment for me, not just money I have lying around, but an investment into a hobby and I didn't know there'd be a risk in the plant buying part like this. I've grown plants my whole life, never purchased any online that looked different upon arrival than pictured

    Squishy can be a sign of rot. But things can also go squishy right after mailing, I’ve seen a squishy patch on a newly arrived cutting harden up after airing it well

    Corking and little scars are one thing – but squishy rot spots are a different story. I noticed that side isn’t showing in the sale pic. He might’ve sold it knowing that side had issues.

    I actually bought a TBM from this same seller/post… everything was fine upon arrival, even got a small little bonus cutting. It’s very strange that yours would be so unhealthy and damaged, along with the missing basal pup from this reputable seller.

    Edit: the worst part is the cactus was a purchase for my mom, she wanted one because she liked the one that I got, and I thought it’d be a nice treat for her since she’s recovering from a big surgery, made her sad to see the cactus arrive looking sick and squishy

    I’m confused. Is pic 1 from the seller? Pic 2 is when you received it? What about pic 3? The pot pictured in pic 1 is also in pic 3.

    TBM can be prone to humidity spots, but I have so many questions. Did you receive the pot in the pic also? Did you receive a 2 segment TBM or just the one? Pic 1 TBM doesn’t look bad, but if you don’t get it where there is sunshine and airflow it could get ugly real quick.

    Ask for a replacement 😊 Stuff happens..I’ve had to resend orders before myself, and customers ended up more than satisfied.

    TBMb are very picky for me VS other bridges, and I can’t figure it out yet. Sometimes they just croak, other times they heal on their own. I have better luck with them on graft stock.

    Cactus mail should be a fun , uplifting experience and you should feel excited and proud of your new plant as soon as you open the box !

    Cactus mail should not feel stressful or make you worried and regretful of your purchase .

    You have every right to contact that seller and tell them you are unhappy with your purchase.

    Really lame when bad vendors make new collectors feel hesitant on purchasing more cactus !

    I’m the seller, and I’ve reached out to the buyer now to sort everything out. I know how disappointing it is to look forward to a package all day—especially when you’re expecting a cactus you’re excited about—only to feel unsure once it arrives.

    I truly don’t believe there is any root rot on this cactus. I stand by my comment that what you’re seeing is corking, which is a normal, harmless process. I probably wouldn’t have cut the basal pup yet, but since it’s already been done, I recommend applying a little sulfur powder to the cut on both the main TBM and the pup. This helps keep it antifungal and encourages the cuts to dry out properly.

    The pup should be left to callous for at least a week and a half before you try to root it. The main issue here seems to be that the cactus became dehydrated and is now strongly in need of water—possibly a bit of fertilizer later on as well.

    I want to be clear that I’m not trying to deceive anyone. I’ll make this right for the buyer. I’m not entirely sure what happened, but they are new to the hobby and looking at cacti as an investment, and this one is a gift for their mother. I never want an unhappy customer.

    Also, for now, please only water the cactus that has roots. After the basal cut has dried for about a week and a half, you can lay the pup on slightly moist topsoil. Give it a couple of weeks and it should start to push out roots. Just remember not to water it like a normal cactus until it actually has roots—too much moisture before rooting can cause problems. I’m very sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase I will work with you and messages to resolve it. You can even update everyone here on the resolution if you’d like.
