Haha those are very cute. I would have sent them to our chickens. Corn is a funny plant to grow, but I love to grow it. Despite the fact that it is a heavy feeder and needs a lot of space plus wind. My suggestion would be to try different varieties suited for your area to see if it makes a difference .

While I didn’t plant corn 🌽 this year, the squirrels 🐿️ did! Unlike the severe drought, we have most summers, we experienced unprecedented rain fall. Getting it from the bird / squirrel feeders, I had corn coming up ALL OVER my yard! I let 2 corner stalks grow and this was my bounty!!!
