I have my Birds of Paradise for 7 years and she flowered annually with several flowers. But this year she surprised with a double flower! The stalk also looks weird because it is twisted.

Never saw this before- is this a common thing or more like a mutation?

Eitherway it looks interesting!

    Wow that’s a beauty. I don’t think I’ve seen any flowering BOP’s posted here. At least not that I can remember. Never really had an interest in these due to how quickly they outgrow ceilings. May be rethinking this now.

    I’m not an expert on BoP but I have been a florist, and when you work with high volumes of flowers you do see some unusual genetic mutations that I think can add to the beauty of the flower (didn’t make them more appealing to paying customers necessarily, but I adored them haha)
