I just discovered that we have a new little friend in my tiny umbrella plant. The plant is very small and was at first struggling to survive when I got it but is now doing better. Just saw this little spider this morning. I assume that’s a good thing to have unless the spider is a sign of a bug infestation or something like that?

I welcome normal spiders, I always how they’ll keep things under control since I have a mild fungus gnat recurrence

Awwwww. He’s a cutie. I have a house spider that lives in my plant corner. I love him ( as long as he stays over there. 😂)

I’d be terrified, but yeah it’s not a bad sign. People say that they eat pests, but idk… thrips are the biggest pest I’ve ever struggled with, and even then they are absolutely tiny. Maybe spiders eat mealy bugs?

  4. they help with gnats, aphids, etc, they don’t really eat smaller pests like thrips or spider mites, but they compete with them so good overall. only issue is have with them are their webs which can get annoying if left uncheckedd

I love spiders!! Whenever I find one in my house I bring it to my plant collection. I had 3 jumping spiders make their homes in my plants, never saw a fly nearby for the whole summer!!

Looks like a northern yellow sac spider. Little friend, good to have around.

Yes! I have some jumping spiders that live in my plant room. They eat gnats. I love them!

If I find a spider in my house, I either ignore it or gently move it to one of my plants.

What a cute lil guy! Yes, they’re a friend! 🙂

It’s a yellow sac spider, I kill these because they have a nasty painful bite and venom that makes you feel feverish for a day. Other spiders are chill

Yellow sac spiders should be relocated outside, but I love jumping spiders and those little dust/house spiders that build webs in corners for pest control. Jumpers are also so funny

I am new to houseplant care, but I do not like yellow sac spiders. They hurt when they bite, and they like to crawl around in the dark in your house…

Spiders definitely a good thing! We recently had an orb weaver move in multiple different spot around our plant rack! Clearly had to find the right fit, because now they’ve comfortably been in the same place for over a month, right behind the rack! So cool! Happy to have them and bonus, the web is (obviously) awesome! Amazing to see how quickly they can pack up a whole web and move!

I use bonide systemic granules in all my potting medium. Do we think that’s incompatible with life for spideys? I’d love to put some in there, but not if I’m just sentencing them to death, ya know?

Does anybody know if they eat scale insects?

That’s a good spooder. It will hep your garden, not harm it. It looks to be a baby orb weaver and they rarely bite, hide really well and don’t like people. Mine are the 2.0 and will take down their webs every night to not advertise its preferred and reserved hunting ground.

All spiders get a name at my house! They are my little helpers! I had an assassin bug in my sunroom, but I haven’t seen him in a few months!🥹💚
