I present to you my giant ctenanthe setosa. I baby every other prayer plant I own and they all look like shit, yet this one thrives on a singular weak grow bulb and once-monthly tap watering. I just don’t get it.

Wow that’s beautiful. At a glance I thought it was a bird of paradise. Amazing job

  2. It’s beautiful! In my humble experience, it’s the difference between an older well established plant versus a baby. We don’t think about it like that but most of the plants we buy at shops aren’t that old. They were props or clones like a year before they hit the shelves. When you find these larger plants, that takes time. They are worth the price tags. 😁

Beautiful! What type of light is that? Is it a hanging lamp?

This was the first plant I ever bought, like 6 years ago and mine dealt with my complete lack of experience…it’s still around but not anywhere close to this, I didn’t know they got this big!!

You said you water once per month, does the soil stay dry awhile or is it moist most of the time? I water mine more often than that but then again it’s in a sliding glass door (behind a corn plant and a rubber tree) So it also gets more light.

I hope mine gets this big, wow!!

😯 they can do that!? Mine always die and then when I’m ready to toss it- it randomly sprouts a new leaf.

  6. Oh nice! I have this ones baby brother. Does yours also slowly fill up the pot with new shoots? The pot gets so full after a while, omg.

I love how easy it is to tell it is thirsty. Whenever the leaves curl up like a cigar, they’re Thirsty. I usually don’t let it get that far, but I do like to keep them a bit on the dry side (they hate wet feet).

Stunning specimen. Such a finicky plant species!! I’m a pro grower and all of mine struggle!

It’s beautiful! It’s definitely one of the easier prayer plants that I’ve had and has given me the least drama.

  9. In my experience, the more you baby a plant, more difficult they get. Most plants can thrive on neglect somehow 🫠

Probably depends a lot on what you’re calling a prayer plant. In my experience, calathea are quite finicky while ctenanthe and maranta are much more forgiving.

  11. How many hours a day is the grow light on?

    She’s a beaut Clark!
