I’ve had this succulent for about 3 months now and I just noticed this at the bottom. Not really sure exactly kind this is. What is growing at the bottom? Is it looking for more soil and needs a repot? Some advice or identification would be greatly appreciated<3

Aerial roots. You can either repot or just let them grow. It looks like its in decent shape so personally I would just put in bigger pot and add soil without messing up the existing roots beneath too much.

Needs a repot, move up 2 in. Diameter in pot size and get those roots in some soil 🙂

Its more than likely humidity or water gets on the plant, they send roots out. its not a bad thing you can add more soil or even a rock mulch to cover them

It doesn’t look healthy below the roots. Possible there’s rot going on and it’s trying to put out new fresh roots.

The stem below the roots looks rotten, if so, then you need to cut above the rot and repot the new roots. Otherwise the rot will continue and the whole plant dies.

You need to act quick or you’re going to lose your plant.

Look at photo 3, the stem under the roots is rotten and dead.

Cut off above the rotten part, let it dry for a couple days, shove it in some fresh chunky dry mix that drains fast, and ignore it for another week, then give it a good watering from the bottom.

It’s a natural airlayer. The roots are the plant’s way of trying to survive the infection. OP could just chop it above the rotting part, but before the roots, it should be fine. Hopefully, the infection hasn’t spread much.

she says, “pot too small, substrate too dense, no oxygen!!! also, wtf is the light?! maybe if i get tall i will find it!!”

IRL, this needs a repot ASAP, remove all rot and a 65% grit and ideally also an increase in the amount of light it’s receiving by a lot

TBH, I would just cut it above the rotted part and go from there. Wait at least two or three days after repotting to water.

Agree with upper comment, they do this when the lower part rots and dies – gotta act fast. Aerial roots are a bit different than these. It’s throwing these out to try and survive cause bottom portion is dying

So those bottom roots need to be covered? I came here for the comments because although not rotting, mine has small roots outshooting from below the leaves, too!

Needed a bigger pot a long time ago. Follow advice in this chat and give plant a roomier home.

There’s something called Jacks Gritty Mix that I found that I’m happy with – I got it direct off their website.
