A few months ago I ordered some leaf cuttings, and a couple months later I ordered a few more.

The first pic is the most recent. They are doing better overall because I use more pearlite to make a less-dense soil for them. For these my question is about the one with the pale leaves, it’s “Rechka Jenisej”. The mother leaf is not very variegated but the pups are almost white. Should I even bother trying to propagate them, or just cut the mother leaf loose and try to propagate again?

The second picture is the first round of propagation, which is a bit stunted from having much more dense soil. But my question is why are they all pink? they were all green when I received them. The only think I can think that might have done it is that I used some Imidaoprid on them prophylactically since I was fighting thrips on my collection.

First question. Don’t seperate out the babies yet. Leave them with the mother leaf as long as you can. Variegated varieties often propagate this way. So you did nothing wrong there.

Second question, seems like too much light on them. I’m guessing here. Not sure about the mite treatment. Maybe u/RedJustice86 or u/horr0rhead will speak up. The’ve forgotten more than I’ll ever know.

  2. I’d wait a little longer with the variegated-leaf AV. I’ve had a similar experience — at first, the pups came up all white, but as they grew a bit more, their new leaves developed much more green. The mother leaf looks healthy, so I think it’s fine to wait and see if the next few leaves from the pups show more green. If not, you can still try propagating it again later.

The other batch looks a bit sickly, though. It might be something in the soil they don’t like. If I’m seeing correctly, their mix contains coconut husk chunks — those can cause salt buildup and nutrient imbalances. I’d try changing the soil. It’s a bit risky, but I think they’ll do much better in a different mix.
