I just got these 2 from the big box store yesterday. They were in a single 2 inch pot and falling out of it. Their substrate was bone dry and this is what the roots looked like (also bone dry). I know watering should be slowing down/ceasing now (I’m in the SE US), but I wasn’t sure if these 2 should get a small drink with the repotting I just did? Thank you in advance!

I think they could take one more deep watering and be fine. They are wrinkled enough on the top and edges. I usually wait for the wrinkles to appear more on the trunk, but if the roots and everything were dry I don’t think it would be a bad idea. They have the deflated look.

Maybe wait a week or two after repotting to allow the roots to recover from damage, but that is more of a cactus technique.

  2. A tad. Not horribly thirsty though. Give them a little sip and leave them be for a few more months

When I get new lithops, whatever state the roots are in, I do the following:

    – pot in dry (mostly organic) soil

    – after 3-4 days, give a little sprinkle around the plant with a squirt bottle

    – a week later, give a deep soak.

This seems to be enough to wake up the roots and get them growing again, after which you can water as usual (when the plant looks thirsty and isn’t splitting).
