I figured almost none of my seeds would germinate. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This’ll be challenging to handle in a few months time!
First sets of spines are showing.
There is a directly proportional relationship between the amount of dose received and the amount that have germinated.
High: 145.
Medium: 139.
Low: 137.
Control: 131.
The low group received 100 gray (10x lethal human dose), the medium, 500 gray (50x), and the high, 850 gray (85x).

If you saw this twice, sorry. Formatting on mobile sucks. Still not satisfied but it’ll have to do.

What technique did you use?
Very nice, was that the highest dose you were capable of sending through the seeds?
super cool! if only everyone had access to deadly ionizing radiation!
Interesting, that is arguably consistent with some arguments I’ve seen in Cactus and Succulent Journals that some seeds require (and many seeds prefer) exposure to UV radiation before germination.
X-rays are a fair bit more powerful, but perhaps some of the biological mechanisms are the same.
Mostly speculation on my part, but an interesting hypothesis I’d love if someone could further study.
