I'm planning on trying to grow some milkweed in a very large pot next year and want to make sure that I am getting something suitable for my region. I've heard of people having issues with getting non-native milkweed from large retailers on accident, so was thinking about getting some Common Milkweed seeds from botanical interests. Would these be suitable for central Ohio?

Yes it is native to Ohio
You might be able to collect seeds from a wild area by you. Check inaturalist
Also, any other plants that you might recommend for around the edge of the pot that would pair well? Maybe something that would overhang the sides. For reference, it is about 2.5 feet diameter.
yes native to Ohio. Botanical Interests historically has been very reliable, but they have recently changed ownership (bought by the Epic Gardening YouTube guy) and i don’t really know if they are still as reliable lol.
Not sure that’s a variety suitable for a pot. They have rhizomes that like to spread – they’re quite aggressive spreaders. I have swamp milkweed in a deep container and it does well. Botanical Interests sells asclepias incarnata seeds as well.
These guys are everywhere when you hike in open grasslands at least in my province of Ontario. You shouldn’t have trouble finding seeds right now. Make sure the pot is deep they have very deep taproots but it should be a fun experiment. Also they bloom the second/third year but the foliage is still very pretty and still very valuable to many invertebrates.
Asclepias tuberosa is quite a bit more well behaved, I also recommend that one!
It is much better to collect seed in your area instead of importing genetics. Now is a perfectly suitable time to collect it and you can grab several times that packet in half a second.
