I'm absolutely fascinated by all types of pollinators, beneficial insects & arachnids (really, any and all little critters). The butterflies and bumblebees are awesome, obviously, but I've always been fascinated by the tiny creatures native to my area that don't get all the coverage and hype on social media.

So, I went through my iNaturalist uploads and pulled out some of the coolest little critters I've seen on my small urban property in 2025 (my opinion). I can't lie, bumblebees are probably my favorite (I saw 8 different species this year!), but these lesser covered insects don't get enough love (especially the wasps, flies, and beetles)!

  1. Fantastic photos, you’ve got skills. I like the lesser known pollinators too, especially the wasps. I’ve seen a smaller variety in my urban garden USDA 5, especially on asters and goldenrod.

  2. geez those are wonderful photos. such clarity and great detail. this makes me appreciate those critters more – I see and hear things buzzing around my flowers and have mostly no idea what they are. thanks OP!
