I inherited this bad boy from a co-worker a few years ago (it was already massive). The only other time I've cut it was to fit it through the front door, and I had no idea what I was doing so they weren't the most strategic cuts. I need to do a really hard cut now because it looks crazy, but I'm terrified. I'd like to add back in some cuttings so it's not barren while it grows back, but is that too much for one pot? Should I try to separate and remove some of the pre-existing stems from the pot? Is it really safe to cut it like, all the way down? Any advice is appreciated!

That plant looks quite healthy and will be just fine if you prune it. If you prune each trunk at a different height, the new growth wont all be competing with each other. It’s usually best to do that in late spring when it’s pushing new growth. Prop your cuttings separately and maybe in the future, plant them all together, or give some away.

  2. I prune mine like we do Christmas trees (Yooper). Prune and shape as you like.

You can definitely trim that down. The hardest part is just doing it the first time.
