Just wanted to share the incredible growth of this tree – planted Feb 2022 with a little size already. Pics from April 2022 and October 2025, so 3.5 years and 4 growth cycles. Yes, in hindsight it's too close to the house but I had my reasons for doing so and can manage…
This is actually at a second home in Galveston, so I put in drip irrigation and used a B-hyve system to water regularly. The tree is listed as "wind resistant" and obviously there are concerns on the Gulf Coast but it managed Beryl last year fairly well.
Bonus pic of also-too-close live oak in front yard (not my fault) for good measure.

That’s absolutely wild lol
I’m north of you in the DFW when we are recommending planting of Mexican sycamores and Mexican white oaks as more of a drought resistant tree and honestly a little diversity. Good to know they’re wind resistant I wish you luck with them. I maintain many live oaks that are “too close to the house “they do well even in small yards as long as you’re not really concerned about the grass under them. Lol
So it grows about a meter at least every year?
Why is the trunk tied to that post? [First image]
