I spent the weekend hacking away at the ivy that was tearing apart my fence. What should I plant in its place?

As I understand it, your fence is the only remaining structure in Portland

I can’t believe that they haven’t taken youe fence to use a firewood in their regimental camps

  3. Looks like your battle isn’t over (ivy on ground). I’d make sure the ivy was thoroughly vanquished before planting anything.

Is there a native honeysuckle for the west coast? I’d go with that for a fence climber.

I salute you, brave soldier! 🫡 You fought a hard battle and won! Although for a second I wondered if I was on r/NativePlantCircleJerk…

I wish the National Guard would come pull up the English Ivy that I’m constantly battling in my yard.

You may have won the battle, but you haven’t won the war.

  7. You’ve only just begun, unfortunately. You have to kill the root, either by pulling out or by cut/paint with an herbicide. It’s an ordeal.

Good to see someone doing the hard work of making America beautiful again after those after those illegal English immigrants (did anyone on the mayflower have a visa? I didn’t think so) came and brought their terrible ivy with them.

  9. I don’t think you are done. As long as that Ivy lives there on that side it’s coming back

Yeah, the stories that I have heard about people trying to remove English ivy – I heard that a bulldozer was the best way. I’m not usually a fan of bulldozers. I never tried to remove any because I’ve never lived in a permanent location where I could do that, but maybe, you’ll have to dig it up for several more years in a row before the rest of the roots are finally gone.

Shed a tear for all the brave soldiers lost in the Himalayan blackberry brambles…
