What tree is this? And can I safely move it?

  1. That’s a staghorn sumac! I’m not sure if you can move it or not – they tend to just grow wild and I haven’t heard of someone cultivating them. They don’t get too much bigger than that, but they do tend to spread horizontally and form large stands

Red sumac, makes fun “berries” (woody fruits covered in malic acid crystals that I forget the word for). I like to suck on them or use them to make sumacade. Kinda tastes like sour patch kids.

I find staghorn sumac, beautiful, and somewhat weedy, so they grow like crazy. I didn’t notice you’re growing zone, but I’m in zone six and this is the perfect time of year to do it. I would do it here in late October and then it would be ready to wake up in the spring I would be inclined to cut it back a little bit in the spring as well, but you can wait and see where the green breaks.

Where I’m from (Georgia) it’s just a big weed. You can normally just yank them out of the ground and burn them in hell.
