    Yes and yes. It looks good, root flare is well exposed, but it’ll also appreciate some mulch. The purpose of the mulch isn’t to cover exposed roots, but to hold water in the soil, keep the surface cooler, and keep plant competition at bay, as well as slowly decaying and enriching the surface soil.

    Looks like you’re mowing over those exposed roots. Mulch would help in that regard. wouldn’t need to mow that area

    Those are glorious root flares. No you don’t cover any exposed root. Particularly those with the same barky tissue as the trunk. Those roots need to stay reasonably dry and need air to breathe. Thin layer of leaf litter is fine over them. Mulching is to help retain soil moisture and suppress competing plants. It’s worthwhile to mulch the area. Again, just don’t cover the roots.

    It’s supposed to be like that but you can put down 1-4 inches of mulch over the roots to protect them from lawn mower damage
