This tree outside the window when I gave birth (Pasadena, CA)
Such a beautiful tree, fern-like leaves and tiny purple flowers. I concentrated on it so much during contractions and pushing as I labored, and would love to know what it is!
Girl, I thought I was in whatisthisbird and looked so hard for your bird. “God I wish I had whatever drugs op got for birth!!” Zoomed back out and felt like an ass! Hope you’re having the best experiences with your baby and got a good laugh out of my dumbness!

Not an answer to your question but I love this anecdote! Ty for sharing.
When I gave birth there were complications and I ended up being in the hospital for almost 4 days. My room had a window that opened to a concrete wall. I was also in labor in my very urban apartment on and off for 4 days leading up to the hospital, and our view was a big construction yard.
On the last day at the hospital I was so desperately hoping baby and I would pass all the tests to finally be allowed to go home… We did, and with my husband driving us through a local forest on the way home I fucking SOBBED from the depths of my soul crying about how much I had missed seeing trees. All of the tension and uncertainty of the experience released then and I’ll never forget the absolute relief and gratitude at the sight of all those familiar trees along that forest drive. Husband and I also giggled a bit at my crying, but yeah. I felt that. 💚

Interesting that this tree is associated now with the birth of your child. In Sydney, Australia we have a lot of these trees, and there is a popular story that this is because a nurse who ran a maternity hospital here would send each new mother home with a Jacaranda seedling.

The story may be a bit exaggerated, but there’s strong evidence that there’s some truth to it. More info in this article: https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/jacaranda-sydney-s-favourite-brazilian-immigrant-20181116-p50gjl.html
