so basically my original tattoo plan was spoiled last minute because i had a scratch on that part of my leg the night before my appointment, usually i like to take more time to research my tattoos but i didn’t want to lose my deposit. i got this beautiful fern tattoo that i love, and i usually label my tattoos with the genus and species of the organism. i waited on this one until i could more accurately identify it, could someone tell me which fern this most closely resembles? thanks in advance

Dryopteris filix-mas/Male fern or Pteridium aquilinum/Eagle fern? That’s the closest I could see? It doesn’t quite look exactly right and none of the other ferns quite match either. It may just be a fantasy plant that resembles real ferns.
This isn’t an accurate representation of a real fern species, it’s a very standard bipinnate fern frond, typical of multiple species across many families such as Dryopteridaceae, Athyriaceae, Thelypteridaceae, Woodsiaceae and more. It’s not *Pteridium* though.
Also, be aware that Scientific names can change due to new research and genetic studies mean that whilst most broad scale issues are resolved for vascular plants, we are still in a period of nomenclatural flux.
