We live on the edge of the forest, and it has been very difficult with the non-native things in the forest that encroach on our property. We usually get about 5 yards every fall to add on our garden bed walkways and around the property to snuff out the constantly cut back Japanese stilt grass that has been taking over around here. It really does help constantly weed wacking it back and then covering it from the fall into the late spring.
I find it absolutely hysterical that I have a 5 yard delivery coming from our local nursery tomorrow, and I got an email about an hour ago saying that chip drop was coming. I called the company to see how much they might be dropping off. I’m a big talker so we both started laughing when I explained to them that I had more woodchucks coming tomorrow and I was trying to figure out if we had enough room for 12 to 15 yards of wood chips.
I’m just super excited because I’m gonna have this sit until the early summer but be able to use the nurserie’s chips for our garlic beds and some areas to break down until the spring. We have a few areas where we’ve had trees downed that definitely need a ton of wood chips in order to put stuff like New York ferns and Allegheny blackberry before the Japanese still grass come up next summer.
