I’m heartbroken about this tree being removed and I was told that it was dead/dying. Can someone tell just by these photos whether or not the tree was healthy, enough to save? is the darker interior wood indicative of rot?

cant tell much from the pictures but there looks to be bark sloughing off and yeah there are some signs of rot in the heart wood. To late now though I dont know that it matters.
Aren’t we all, especially this mutilated tree, but likely would’ve taken several decades.
