Bro……ugly. Disregarding the stupidity of that cut angle and your crime against a species that is seriously threatened: the cut marks are wild. How in the world? Your saw looks like it has a bent bar or uneven teeth left to right. The way you staked and fanned repeatedly is odd for this type of cut. I’m not sure what you did for the notch. At least you didn’t peel it. You should never cut another tree.

I put it to the Panel of Arborists that, u/iSeeYouMr be Pardoned for reasoning as follows: – Rather than attempting to deceive, u/iSeeYouMr has willingly presented us with photos of the mistake, which has also been acknowledged, as well as described as a ‘once in a career blunder’.
– In coming forward before anyone else could report the blunder, the act of facing consequences which may not have been necessary and may never had otherwise been known, takes larger balls than the majority of Arborists.
– Given the the possibility of u/iSeeYouMr balance being affected and directly impacting the angle of the cut, may have been caused by the weight of larger balls?
– Remorse has been shown, punishment virtually requested by the Arborist and no doubt the Ash Tree shall be compensated accordingly with water and fertiliser and recover.
In summary, I feel that u/iSeeYouMr shows promising signs of what it takes to continue the career and should retain the title ’Arborist’.

Isn’t that enough collar? I’ve seen flush cuts and they are literally flush with the trunk.

Second look, isn’t this as good as it gets? Looks like he got it within an inch of the end of the bulge.
