The grass was covered by landscape fabric and mulch, at first. Then over a few years small rock garden sections were added one at a time. The groundcovers helped pull all the separate sections together.
It looks best in early summer, but it remains interesting as it changes through the seasons.

This is like my dream lawn
My no lawn started a small rock garden. 10 years later I have zero grass in the front or back. Best way to start in my opinion. All the rock garden plants are pretty carefree and crowd out the weeds by default.
Hi, I am just now looking to turn my lawn into some sort of flower garden and your setup looks beautiful! I had a quick question: do your plants continuously grow larger, and will you eventually need to begin pruning to keep everything tidy? Your plants appear to be the perfect size for species I would like to have but I want to be aware of potential monthly upkeep to make sure it remains neat. Thanks!
