in zone 4b and looking to remove these rocks under these two shrubs (burning bush?)that were already planted on my property. It’s mostly shady and will receive some dappled sunlight. Clay soil that is dry for the most part. Want to plant a sedge grass and maybe incorporate geranium maculatum and keep it very simple. Is there good sedge species that will fill in the area nicely? Or would plants under these shrubs look bad and keep the rocks? Any recommendations are welcome.

Being zone 4b, I doubt you’re in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region, but the results of Mt. Cuba’s carex trials might still be helpful: https://mtcubacenter.org/trials/carex-for-the-mid-atlantic-region/

Real good stuff, I’ve being using it to choose which I get. Lots of people jump on Pennsylvania sedge, and it’ll be easy to find, but while it did score well, it does have a flopping habit that I don’t really like.

    Lot of options out there!

I live in 4b and have a shaded yard. I have a lot of natural wood sedge, and it was what was offered in the native section at my local plant shop. (Minnesota)

Prairie Nursery [https://www.prairienursery.com/] has great information on native plants and their soil requirements.
