Sorry by the way this is in New Zealand
Could have been a grafter trying to have a play and just wanted to see what would happen if they grafted a random piece to the vine?
Am I crazy or is that literally just new growth from the kiwi branch?
Almost looks like apple to me.
Looks very much like *Actinidia arguta,* it was used as a rootstock or grafted on same rootstock.

Where is the graft union? Looks like an Arguta shoot. Root stock is usually ‘Bruno’ or ‘Bounty’ and they have much bigger leaves. But what do I know.
