This seed? Shot out of the tree with a noticeable pop and landed about 10 feet from the source.

Very hard and about 8cm long.

Three if them came down in less than three minutes.

What is it?

  1. Looks like a Morinda citrifolia fruit, also known as noni. They are edible, but smell and taste horrible. It’s famine food and a common ingredient in scam super juices.

Not sure where you are, but we have fruit like this at our local botanical garden. Looks like a Noni fruit!

    Noni fruit … It’s vile.
I volunteered with a science program a few years back and was teaching fermentation science to a bunch of middle schoolers; the head teacher offered to ferment a noni fruit for us to try (I’d fermented eggs, beets, cabbage, cucumbers, and peppers for the kids). The reviews ranged from spoiled orange juice to vomit.

I live around them when Im in Panama. Unripe, not much smell. Over ripe and falling apart, absolutely putrid. Even at a distance.

This fruit is like evil dogwood fruit, just as messy and gross but smells way worse.

Noni or vomit fruit. However you came across it just put it back where you found it. It will stank your house and fridge, not like durian fruit but close 🤣

These when fully ripe make an excellent bug repellent. Make sure you start at your ankles.

  13. Oh that’s what that fruit looks like? I definitely fell for the scam juice thing, though I just ended up using it as a way of adding variety and plant matter to my diet. Calling it vomit fruit is not hyperbole. That juice smelled very reminiscent of it. It’s been a long time, but I don’t remember it tasting nearly as bad as it smelled. It didn’t taste great, mind you.
