Oregon white oaks/Garry oaks in my area seem to be having a banner year! Going to plant a dozen acorns and protect from squirrels over winter and see what happens. 🌱

Do a few dozen more! Plant the oaks you want to see in the world

I don’t but my neighborhood squirrels and bluejays certainly do.

Does a lot of acorns signal a bad winter to come? I heard that but hoping it’s not true.

I’ve tried but it didn’t work when I tried last time

Only if you send me some! Jk lol That’s a lot of acorns!

The deer and squirrels by me vacuum these up as soon as they hit the ground. 🙃

Yes.  It is irresistible. 🌳  Gatherered a small baggie of live oak acorns in thrift store parking lot today to plant and am watching for southern magnolia seeds.  Johnny Appleseed lives on!  🙂

We have a white oak in out yard and every year about 10 buried acorns get left by whoever burried them. My mom used to pull up the 1ft oaks and toss them in the recycle bin, but now I pot them up in quarts and give them away. By the looks of it, it will be a cold winter.

Is it strange that my Shumard Oak puts off this amount of acorns every year? I’ve always heard that they do this every few years somewhat unpredictably, but ours has churned them out like this all 8 years we’ve lived in our house.

Ha, I let the squirrels do that for me then dig up the seedlings and move them to where I’d like them to be.

Yes! This is one of the biggest mast years I’ve ever seen and I’m taking advantage of it. We lost a few mature oaks this year and they need to be replaced. Plus, a keystone species is always a wise thing to plant more of

If there’s ever a famine, those acorns will provide a critical food source. Plant as many as you can 👍

Doug Tallamy says a planted acorn will grow taller faster than any store-bought seedling.

I collected 300 burr oak acorns yesterday morning, going to collect more today. Watching a group of white oaks in town till they’re ready to drop.

Check your state’s Dept of Forestry and find out if they are accepting seeds for habitat mgmt. That’s what we do with our huge black walnut tree

  16. There are swamp white oak in my neighborhood and the squirrels plant my acorns for me.
