What does it look like when planting native happens as a mass community effort? (Part one)
A fall, and more extensive look, at various yards both big efforts and small, well kept and established and messy and chaotic, from around my community.
Beautiful! Just please trim them back so they don’t block the sidewalk. It’s really frustrating as a pedestrian.

So lovely and vibrant! What city is this? I would love to live in a place where more people are interested in native plants! (Though I’m trying to make that happen here!)

Very cool. A lot of the Twin Cities is starting to look like that. We have tons of grant programs for people, churches, schools, etc etc to have native plant landscaping. The percentage of serviceberries among landscaping trees that look like they’re less that 10 year old, is just massive. I always joke there must have been an issue of “Municipal Forestry Monthly” that said that bradford pears are OUT and serviceberries are IN because there is such a stark cutoff in what has been planted based on age (I have no idea if a magazine like this exists, i just joke about it). Very very cool.

I would love to do a before and after survey of the number of insect species for a neighborhood block like this. Especially if they also reduced lighting and added non-plant type habitat. I have noticed an increase in diversity being the lone house in my neighborhood. A block would be amazing.

This is amazing and so inspiring. If only my neighbors were more willing ugh. My next door neighbor would come out with a roundup bottle at the sight of the smallest weed 😢
