As the title suggests, I want to try and save this Japanese maple that we inherited with our new place that we bought about a year ago.

It was heavily pushed to this side by an overgrown and unkempt hedge that we decided to remove.

No limb on this maple is over say 5-6” in diameter, I’m planning to just go about things with my hand pruning saw, but want to make sure I can try and help this beautiful tree regain some structure and shape for our front yard!

I would look up some yt videos about creating a ‘windswept’ appearance. Prolly want to take down some of the taller branches and keep the lower ones.

Tree is totally salvageable and shaping Japanese maples is a fun little hobby. Enjoy!

I wonder if you can use ropes and ratchet straps to pull on the branches and hold them until they stay on their own.
