Craft a container, paint a pumpkin, and even dig for discounts with a calendar filled with fun fall events at Landscape Garden Centers.

“The product we have available right now is simply phenomenal,” purchasing manager Laura Kalfs said. “In addition to our trusted fall vendors, we’ve used a new local grower this year, and there are so many new and unique types of fall annuals you’re not going to find anywhere else.”

“We have straw bales, pumpkins, gourds, mums and all the fall annuals, so it’s a great time to sign up for a fall event, visit the garden center or have us create a custom container for you.”

From popular events that sell out to brand-new ones, here are eight great reasons to stop in soon.

Free DIY landscaping consultation

For three days this week, bring your ideas, questions and potential projects to Landscape Garden Centers for a free, 30-minute, hands-on walking consultation with the landscape experts. Choose 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

“It’s geared toward anyone looking to do landscape improvements to their yard,” Kalfs said. “If you’re looking for general ideas or maybe you lost trees in a storm or to emerald ash borer and you’re looking for replacement ideas, this is a great time to stop by.”

Considering adding a pollinator-friendly garden or one ideal for bird watching? This is the time for guidance. Plus, you’ll receive a coupon for 20 percent off all plants purchased that day.

Bring your photos, measurements and budget, and walk away with:

A personalized plant list.
Expert design guidance.
Installation and care instructions.
Confidence to complete your DIY project.

The experts will help you choose plants that fit your:

Sun and soil conditions.
Color and bloom preferences.
Design goals and style.
Desired level of maintenance.

“We can even help arrange delivery for plants, mulch, rock and edging — everything you need to bring your vision to life,” Kalfs said.

Spots are limited, so register here.

Flowers After Hours: Beer & BBQ Night

The popular Flowers After Hours event returns from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Garden Center.

Remedy Brewing Co. will be there sampling craft beer, and the Backyard BBQ food truck will be serving up delicious food.

Guests can enjoy plant bingo and door prizes throughout the evening. Plus, take 20 percent off everything in the garden center and nursery.

“We’ve had people who have started to come every time or have started to bring friends and family, so that’s been really neat to see,” Kalfs said. “Our garden center and nursery look so pretty at night when the sun is setting, and it’s been fun to share that with our customers. It’s a completely different atmosphere and vibe.”

Dig It!

This brand-new event is going to bring fun for the whole family. Stop by Landscape Garden Centers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Choose a sand pail, dump it out and reveal your mystery coupon — worth 15 percent, 25 percent or 40 percent off your purchase that day.

From noon to 2 p.m., bring photos of your backyard or landscape, and meet with an expert designer for DIY tips, plant suggestions and other ideas.

And let kids play from noon to 4 p.m. as they climb in and explore heavy equipment — with supervision — play in the sandbox and enjoy yard games. The Harrisburg Fire Department will be there with its fire engine too!

“We wanted to put a different spin on a fall event and thought this would be fun for all ages,” Kalfs said. “It’s very family-oriented, and we got others in the area involved as well.”

Fall workshops

From food preservation to fall containers, the calendar is filled with workshops this month.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24, join SDSU Extension at Landscape Garden Centers to learn how to make the most of apple season with canning, freezing and drying. It’s $5, and you’ll leave with hands-on tips, plus you own jar of homemade applesauce. Space is limited, so register here.

Plant in the fall, and you’ll be happy come spring. From 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 27, Landscape Garden Centers will host a fall bulb planting workshop in the cafe. Learn how to plant fall bulbs and companion perennials for a garden that thrives year after year. The experts will share tips to help your bulbs survive the winter and bloom beautifully in spring.

“A lot of people come in for tulip bulbs in the spring when they are blooming, not realizing you plant those in the fall, so we’ll go over design and planting perennials right alongside tulips, daffodils and other spring bloomers this fall,” Kalfs said.

Plus, receive 20 percent off all bulbs during the event. Space is limited, so register here.

Want something already in bloom? The bulb planting workshop will be followed on Sept. 27 by a fall container workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. Plant experts will help design a festive, fall-inspired container that’s totally unique to you.

Choose from a wide selection of fall annuals, pumpkins and more to design your own one-of-a-kind piece. It’s $15 to register, plus the cost of materials.

Plants, pumpkins and gourds are sold separately. Bring your own container or purchase one in the Garden Center.

Your $20 registration includes instruction, four figurines, soil, sand, rocks, moss, gloves, and a drink and snack.
