I moved into this place in socal in January and was told there were fig trees in the front yard, but they were all dead at that time. They’re finally fruiting and it’s supposedly fig season but when i went to cut them open and actually look at them they look more like guava (most were rotten but i was just curious). Is it a hybrid? is it neither? are they edible?? i was so excited for figs but guavas could also be cool just don’t want to poison myself😭

Yup definitely not figs, they are guavas

The fruit do look like guavas, and that’s definitely not a fig tree.

Dang, I’m jealous. I doubt guava would do well here in WV. The tree would probably be fine after some indoor winters, but probably wouldn’t fruit. You should try to make some sort of jelly/jam or something with them!

Also now that I know what they are, if anyone has any good recipes or ideas on how to eat them it’d be much appreciated since i have so many now!! i’ve had guava before but usually just in drinks lol

I dunno what a guava looks like but I do know figs and those don’t look like any figs I’ve ever seen before.

They are definitely not figs- the texture of the skin is completely wrong.

LUCKY!!! Guavas are so YUMMMM. 🤤.

Make some preserves! I bought some fresh guava preserves earlier this summer and have been savoring it slowly. I even went so far as to hide it in the back of the fridge so my family doesn’t see it bc I wanted all for myself. Lol. I’m genuinely sad seeing the jar’s almost empty.

I recently put it atop a plain cheesecake and it was divine! ✨

Yes! Figs have totally different leaves and different fruit.
