Was looking for a native option for turf replacement that stays under 8 inches and this seemed to fit the bill.
Does have any experience mixing creeping smartweed in with buffalo grass and other short natives?

Smartweed doesn’t look like that most of the year. It is a seasonal plant, annual, so your coverage will vary greatly. Also, this site doesn’t give the exact species of smartweed, but lady’s thumb is not native to the US, and neither are some of the other smartweed varieties. I’m guessing because of the TM it’s a cultivar of lady’s thumb rather than a straight species, possibly hybridized with creeping smartweed or Pennsylvania smartweed so they can claim the native label. Honestly it’s a little sketchy that this site doesn’t give more details about what species it actually IS instead of what its brand name is, since the details they do give are contradictory. Is it actually lady’s thumb or not?

But look, I’m biased against smartweed because it is a recurring nuisance for me, so maybe get a second opinion.

Love smartweed! Bees and hummingbirds love it.
