We call them wild persimmon. Definitely wait till they’re bletted. That means eat them when they look rotten.

Persimmon. Tugg gently on the stem. If the stem comes off easily it’s ripe and sweet. Otherwise It’ll be very astringent. Pucker city. I like them when they are ripe but it’s an acquired taste.

Lucky you!!! Persimmons are a highly desirable fruit native to North America, both for wildlife and for humans. I believe it has the highest caloric density of any fruit native to North America, which makes it sought after by many species that normally don’t eat fruit, like foxes. Fantastic find! 🙌

Youre weird fruit on a tree for the fourth dimensional beings to goble up once you get nice and ripe. They love the saltiness. All the pain sorrow and shock make you taste better.

Am i trippin, or does that look like a golden plum?

A lot of fiber and even more seeds. Kind of pumpkineey.
I remember finding piles of the seeds on the gravel driveway on the way to the house.
Turns out it was possums eating the persimmons and pooping out the seeds.

Are these in Alabama too?

You can ripen them by putting them in the freezer overnight. Ready to eat the next day
