Hi all! So this is the second terrarium I have built and the first time i have had this white stringy thing appear?

I will say the first terrarium I made had everything except the moss. It’s from a sheet moss bag i purchased from a local reptile store and didnt get to use it immediately because my plants were still pretty small at the time. Now that they’ve grown I’ve moved them over to this bigger enclosure. Ideally I’m setting it up to house my jumping spider when he’s an adult (currently a baby and in a smaller enclosure).

I do need to add springtails soon and was hoping to do that soon this week as i only set this up Friday night. Any help/suggestions would be great. Thank you!

Looks like there is some mould there but I think this is more like spider mites. I’d recommend washing the moss in distilled/rainwater for now to remove the worst of it then try to get some predatory mites that will hopefully deal with them. Springtails will also help with the mould growth.

I often say it is best to wait a bit for the environment to reach equilibrium before adding your pet, so that’s good if you are thinking ahead. Also gives you plenty of time to sort out any issues that crop up.

Honestly i dont have any tips i face problems like this also, just wanted to say really nice design it looks kinda like a floating Island. Great vision..

  3. Your tank is cycling and without airflow or springtails the mold will keep growing

This is normal in new setups, let the springtails do their work over the next few days.
