I ended up going with 2 different trees. Both are cultivars of native plants in our area. One is a ‘Hearts a’Fire’ redbud and the other is a ‘autumn brilliance’ serviceberry! Hopefully I did an OK job with the spacing.

I know I said I wanted a shade tree but after your feedback I figured I can plant a shade tree in another area of the yard. Next will be planting some perennials in the beds and then mulching.

Thank you all again for the great suggestions and feedback!!!

How on earth did you remove so much grass? That’s backbreaking work.
