I'm doing this very thing but with cellophane clamshells. You gave me the courage to just stick my seeds in compost and let mother nature do the rest. I think we had our last frost here last night. The seedlings no where near yet germinated!!
I saw a video years ago where they put a hole in each end of the container and threaded drip irrigation through it for low maintenance – we're in the desert, my stuff dries out so quick with hand watering.

Do you poke holes in the bottoms of the plastic totes for drainage or the sides for venting? Do you still need to continue to water?
