I'm growing white stem Pak Choi in India, and I have maintained the nutrient water at 1200 ppm TDS, a pH of 5.5–6 and sufficient sunlight. However it is growing abnormally and appears yellowish in color. What could be the issue?

Does your fertilizer contain iron, magnesium, and micronutrients as these looks like it’s lacking?

You don’t have any soil. That is your issue

I would guess the lack of micro nutrients. Iron possibly. What nutrients are you using currently?

  4. yellowing of old leaves suggest nitrogen and magnesium deficiency and yellowing of young leaves indicate iron and manganese deficiency

Please include information about your nutrient water. We have absolutely no idea how to help you if you don’t let us know what you’re using.

Almost certainly nutritional deficiency. Affecting the whole plant but definitely the older growth first. Pretty classic nitrogen deficiency I think. Just because PPM is at 1200, that doesn’t mean the individual elements are in proper ratio.

Could also be magnesium issue. Dissolve some epsom salt in a sprayer and do a foliar spray. If it greens up after a day then that’s your answer. But more likely nitrogen is lacking.

My favorite video on youtube is linked below. It is a very step by step “guide” in detail. Worth saving in a playlist.

How are you checking pH? Is your meter in calibration, or are you using test strips?

What is the starting water ppm? That looks like a built-up alkalinity problem, IMO. It can happen pretty easily in recirculating systems.
