Savour some of the best local products – in store and through a BuyBC giveaway starting Sept. 5!
Local tastes better – something Okanagan residents know better than many. There’s the flavour that comes from farm-fresh food, of course, but it’s served alongside the satisfaction of knowing that in choosing local products, you’re also supporting local farmers and producers.
That recipe for success is at the heart of Swan Lake Market & Garden. “Our focus on local is something we’re incredibly proud of, and it extends far beyond fresh produce,” Derrick Cooke, Swan Lake Market owner, sharing a sampling of what’s in store:
Okanagan-grown fruits and vegetables, delivered fresh
Hundreds of B.C.-made grocery items, including locally crafted jams, sauces, snacks and pantry essentials
A curated selection of handmade gifts, from pottery and jewellery to soaps, preserves and more
Year-round support for small farms and family-run businesses throughout the province
And you don’t have to read every label to find those products from B.C. or Canada, either – the Swan Lake team makes it easy!
“We actively promote these producers through in-store signage and regular features like Keeping it Local, Bringing You BC, and Crafted in Canada, all designed to connect our customers with the people behind the products and to reinforce the value of shopping local,” Cooke says.
Further supporting these initiatives is Swan Lake’s partnership with the province’s BuyBC program, which works with more than 410 retail stores, 150 farmers markets and 1,000 farmers and processors to promote B.C. food, beverage and floriculture products to customers.
Run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the message is simple – and echoed daily in the aisles of Swan Lake Market: When you Buy BC, you help support our local economies and the hard-working people in our communities who provide for us, delivering the food we love from here at home.
“Swan Lake Market has been one of my favourite places to shop with my family for over a decade – a place we’ve come to love for its fresh local food and warm community spirit,” says Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Lumby and Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture.
A staple for locals and a highlight for visitors seeking a taste of the Okanagan, as a Vernon-based retailer, the market has shown an outstanding commitment to sourcing and supporting B.C. farmers and food processors, Sandhu adds.
“Through their partnership with Buy BC, Swan Lake showcases the incredible quality of Okanagan and B.C. goods, making it easy for shoppers to support local.”
