I found this huge widowmaker right next to my driveway this morning. This is a black cherry that snapped about 20' above the base. Given it's location, it feels like it should be taken down.
In case anyone is concerned, I am NOT considering attempting this on my own.
I am curious as to how much it will cost to have this laid flat (not disposed) and how they would even go about taking this down. Seems incredibly dangerous.

Expensively
I would probably climb the live one behind it and take it down in pieces to prevent damaging anything else
Tie a 1/2” or larger polyester rope just above the break and pull with a truck from a safe distance. If that doesn’t work, may have to notch and back cut parallel with the leaning portion and pull sideways. I would do it for $200.
If its possible and the crew have one they’ll likely use a bucket and piece it out or rig it down depending on a lot of factors. If climbed, only safe way would be to climb something adjacent and likely drop the entire top whole, likely causing some splash damage but that’s all not discernible from photos.
As for cost, it varies hugely depending on where you are located and what state.
If it were me I’d use my trusty throw ball to get a rope up and tied around something sufficient near the tips and then use a winch or similar to pull it out/down. That would probably be the safest way.
This isn’t a proper response, but this post made me think of someone, and I felt compelled to throw their answer in since they cannot.
1 cut, a solitary back cut, one handing a Husky 572, calling out “horse shoes” dressed in safety denim shorts and a suit jacket with the sleeves ripped off looking like Animal from The Muppets.

I’d ram my old f350 into the base of the tree.
Why are you asking? Are you planning to do it yourself? Call a real professional and let them do it the way they would do it. In the same way that you really don’t need to know how the surgeon will remove the tumor, You just need to trust that he knows what he’s doing. After that it’s out of your hands. You know what the right thing to do is. Make the phone call.
Here’s what I’d do. Upgrade my homeowner’s insurance, rent a truck, get the LDW, put some cuts on the back, and pull it down myself. To be fair, I don’t know what I’m doing.
100ft det cord. just stand back
Why are they camping under it
Extension ladder and a pole saw. Any reddit homeowner can do it. Dont pay high prices for safe competent ISA certified arborists.
With a lasso and a pickup truck… 😉
“Very carefully.”
It needs to be seen ofc but if it’s not doable from the ground / with lifts or stuff I’d probably climb a tree next to it and work it from the top
It depends and pictures of a tree NEVER do the scene justice (that tree looks extremely big & tall). If it’s accessible with a utility bucket, that would most likely be the easiest way and there’s definitely going to be rigging involved.
If there’s no machine access, now it depends on surrounding trees to climb; rope & rig out of. Or if there’s an open enough space to drop the tree into and to me it looks like you’d still need a tag line tied off to the broken piece and another tied off higher on the trunk piece to guide the direction of the felling.
Professionals are all over the place with their pricing. Just be sure that they’re insured
Probably with a chainsaw
Honestly, no advce can be given remotely for this – that has to be investigated in person.
It will likely involve a bucket truck and a lot of planning.
Make sure someone comes and looks at it first, before you get an estimate or a game plan.
Anyone who gives you either via these pictures is not a professional.
(edit: it also looks like there are TWO trees that require removal here)
