Gardeners’ World star Sue Kent has shared a nasty injury she suffered as fans rushed to support her. The BBC presenter revealed she had cut her finger badly in a post on Instagram.
She shared a picture of her finger wrapped up in a glove, writing: “All fingers and no thumbs make it a bit of problem when I cut my finger (which I rarely do but I have done this week) and I want to Garden. Unfortunately gloves are not an option.
“So I’ve cut the finger off a surgical gloves slotted it over the plastered finger and secured it with electrical tape, hopefully this will be enough to protect my cut. it’s not advisable to have open wounds when putting your hands in the soil.”

Sue’s concerned fans rushed to comment. One wrote: “Ouch! Hope it heals quickly!” A second said: “Didn’t really want to click the heart, felt like it should have been [a shocked face]. Anyway hope you heal quickly.”
A third worried fan shared: “Oh dear. Take care Sue. I suffered blood poisoning from a splinter while gardening.” And a fourth added: “Finger cuts are painful. Hopefully you’re up to date with your Tetanus vaccinations (you can tell I’m a nurse lol). I will just say though be careful wrapping the tape right around the finger. If the finger swells the tape will become a tourniquet. Take care and heal quickly xx”

Sue was born with arms eight inches long, no thumbs and seven fingers – three on one hand, four on the other. Her upper limb disability is as a result of her mother being prescribed Thalidomide while she was pregnant with her.
Sue is keen to show how gardening can be possible with physical limitations and encourage others to have a go whatever their ability may be. Sue is now RHS ambassador for disability inclusions.
