Someone came into our yard last night and hacked up a bunch of our trees. I was planning on cutting some of them anyway, but now I want to save them all just to spite whichever neighbor did it. Is there any hope? What would y’all recommend?
PS for anyone wondering, I already made a police report. We have at least one neighbor that has had a grudge against us since we moved in. Not sure who, but this is the first physical step they have made toward us. Our yard was impassable when we moved in and I guess the hundreds of hours I have spent on removing the forests of bush honeysuckle isn’t enough for them. I guess they realized the city compliance officers weren’t going to help them in their war against us and took it into their own hands.

At this point the only option is time, see what happens. And put up security cameras, keep an eye out. Maybe reach out to law enforcement, it might be small for them but it might not be the last time this happens to you or other people, and you want it on record. Trees or not, this is vandalism and an invasion/destruction of your property.

They’re all girdled. So no, none of them will live.
If you are hoping they survive, give them plenty of regular water. If they’re even close to survival, any additional stress will kill them.
Put up cameras. This is the worse kind of vandalism, and they will clearly do it again or worse. Brazen.
Get a trail cam.
Have them tested for pesticide frilling or cut, and squirt application looks a lot like this.

I would invest in security cameras . Maybe even have a system installed .
Get a restraining order from local law enforcement prohibiting them from being on your property and get the cameras up. Just call the office and enquire. Also take more pix of trees from all sides. Also consider whether your brush clearance might be “revealing” some illegal activity your neighbors are engaged in. Chop shop, growing weed, moonshine…. You need to assess their threat level to you, your kids and pets.
Can you wrap them tight to see if they will heal. Like when they graft limbs?

Put cameras up. Lots. If they will do this to trees they’ll do things to pets or property
Am I mistaken that one of these trees is Tree Of Heaven? If so, very invasive and you might not want it anyway! Sorry about the other trees tho
