I’m a home owner with a chainsaw. I’ve been avoiding these because they look dangerous. Which is most likely to kill me?

1 a tree that uprooted and hung up in two others that were partially uprooted by the first falling tree.

2 has a big split in the middle to the point you can see right through it. Hung up in the canopy.

3 broke about 20’ up and hung up making an almost 90 deg angle.

  1. Any of them.

Basically take care not to kill yourself around there.

All of them. They hate you. I can see it in their eyes

Buy yourself a 100ft throwline and throw-ball. Both fairly cheap. Send them high up over the top of the hung portion of each of these. A throwline is the size of mason’s twine, but ultra strong. It can be tied to a shotbag and tossed 50+ feet into the tree with just a bit of practice.

Now use that to pull a very strong rope up and over it. Learn to tie a running bowline and attach your rope to the tree.

Buy your neighbor with a good strong tractor a few beers, and have him pull these suckers down.

You’re talking to a group of people who deal with these storm hazards for a living. None of us are going to try to cut these on the ground with a saw to remedy the problem. We dislike like being flattened into arborist jelly.

We’re either going to drag it out of the entaglement so it hits the ground… or we’re bringing a crane or bucket truck (or clibing in rare situations) to attack this where things are easier to predict.

For myself, I show up with the excavator, dig the stump free, and push. But that’s not a feasible recommendation for most redditors…

  4. It’s one of those situations where if you have to ask then all of them. These are all very dangerous trees yo deal with

I had one of those over a shade bed. Was so happy when it finally came down.

This post is a joke and my frustration with the black cherry trees that seem to break in the worst possible ways. I don’t actually plan to take on any of these besides maybe the one at a 90 deg angle with a rope and pull it down if I can. I promise I will not do anything to hurt me.

Three, but none of them if you don’t walk near them. Beautiful pathway on number three though. Always- look up!
