Provides nice shade in the summer but It seems like it was planted too close to my house. It’s hard to tell but it leans away from the house.

Unfortunately yes. Piss poor choice on location and type.

A tree that close is likely to cause some roof damage in the future. It also has the potential to cause some foundation damage. I personally would remove it, and maybe replant a new tree 10 ft away from the house. I recommend some light trimming to get it away from the roof At the very least

I wouldn’t keep it. Trees this close to foundations are asking for trouble like root damage to your foundation, branches/leaves clogging gutters, and potential for significant damage if it falls during a storm.

Yes, the tree is too close the structure and will eventually cause either roof or foundation damage or both.

So, this one time a (relatively well-to-do) buddy of mine took me with to see a house he was considering purchasing as a rental property. At the time it had a fairly large tree next to it, kind like this tree will be in a few decades. When we looked at the basement, the tree’s roots had entirely caved in a 7-foot section of foundation wall. I have since become a big believer of no veg within 5 feet of the house. (In some climates this will also help fire-resist the building.)

So yeah, unfortunately for that green guy, he got to go.

As much as I LOVE trees, this just is not gonna work.

Not only is it too close to the house, but literally why is it right in front of the window too?

  7. URnevaGonnaGuess

Yes!. Way too close to the house/foundation.

  8. Opening-Cress5028

I’d cut it off level with the window

Totally remove it! Way too many negative consequences if this is growing that close to the house! 🏡

Do your research before posting planting big trees close to a house!

Use smaller manageable trees closer to buildings!

I would try to dig it up and move it but its a lot of work

  11. Guilty_Advantage_413

Yes it’s too close to the house.

  12. chugItTwice

Way too close. Remove before it damages a lot of shit.

Sad to say I would recommend removing. Way to close now and hard to keep off roof and root system?? Easy take down but can easily replace 10/12 feet away with another and trim as it grows to do what you want.

  14. Yep. In a heartbeat, take u less than hour, …leave it and let roots mess your foundations up, fill gutter with leaves. Cause dampness.. etc. it’s a just do it thing.

  15. Ultimatescoozy

Yes, whoever planted that didn’t know what they were doing

  16. altavistayahoo

Squirrels would like for you to not remove that as it’s their access to your gutters and attic. Otherwise, yeah take that down.

  17. MinuteOk1678

Yes. Way to close especially as it will continue to grow.

It is possible you could just move it further out and away from the house.

Always consider a tree’s mature size when planting!

No, I don’t even know where it is and have no idea how long it’d take me to get there. So, no, I will not remove that tree.

Get some buddies, light up the bbq get some beers and start digging a new hole about 10 feet from the house. Then dig up the tree and move it as it’s not that big. Afterwards give it plenty of water. By now the bbq is hot and that one buddy that is too lazy to do the heavy lifting, should at least have the meat ready by now. So now you can enjoy.
